Our Value-Added Process:
- We gently heat the asphalt to the proper temperature on new or healthy asphalt
- We place the template down and pound or "iron" it in to affect the pattern chosen.
- Finally, we mask off and spray-apply layer upon layer of a highly modified coating to give the project its distinctive appeal and protection from wear and the elements.
Stamped Asphalt has been around the longest (since the early 90’s) and the most commonly used. Rhome and Haas (largest polymer manufacturer in the world) developed the highly specialized polymer modified coating systems we employ. Everyone in the US drives on their Superpave products.
Asphalt is a somewhat flexible substrate which has no seams. The challenge solved was to make a super-durable, slip resistant, yet flexible coating that holds up under tough conditions. Down-time is minimal during installation as well.
With all the options that fall under the heading of stamped asphalt, and to assist you in making informed choices, we compiled this list based on application.
Note: Stamped asphalt is imprinted the same for all options below unless otherwise noted.
Residential Stamped Asphalt: Imprint and coat with either 2 or 3 coats of StencilCoat which is an acrylic based coating or epoxy modified 150 coating. Accents and borders in contrasting colors are imprinted or left smooth and all are coated with 2 or 3 coats using coating products described.
Commercial Stamped Asphalt: Imprint and coat with 4 coats of epoxy modified 150 coating. Accents and borders in contrasting colors are imprinted or left smooth and all are coated with 4 coats using 150 coating products described.
Municipal Stamped Asphalt: Imprint and coat with 4 coats of epoxy modified 150 coating or FrictionPave coating which adds thickness and increased traction and skid-resistance. Accents and borders in contrasting colors are imprinted or left smooth and all are coated with 4 coats using coating products described.
ThermoPrintHT: Imprinted with the same cable templates as above. Instead of coating, we fuse ¼” thick specialized thermoplastic to the printed asphalt using infrared heat. We finish by broadcasting special aggregate and or reflective glass beads and imprint again within the pattern created to define the pattern impressions and allow cooling.
FrictionPrint Mill & Fill: We have the area laid out for demarcation, milled to approx. 3/4” deep. The area is then filled with a urethane based natural aggregate in color desired and then imprinted using the same template method described above. The project is allowed to cure, and then returned to traffic.
Inlaid Thermoplastic or ThermoPrint: This option employs heating the asphalt, then using extremely tough 1/8” thick plastic templates which are “ironed in” or imprinted to leave rectangular 1/8” deep by ½” wide impressions. Pre-cut specialized thermoplastic imbedded with reflective glass beads are placed and cut to overlap each section, filling the impressions created. The area is heated again to cause the thermoplastic to melt and fuse within its new home. The result is a “reverse look” to other methods, where the grout lines are providing color, reflectivity and demarcation, while the asphalt within each brick is visible.
Coating Only or RoadColor: No imprinting is done and the project is simply cleaned, masked and 4 layers of coating are spray-applied to achieve beauty, protection and demarcation.
